Educational Technology can change so fast your head will spin, stop, and then spin again.
EdTech Spy, Michael Szapkiw, is here to decipher these tech tools, so you don't have to and, perhaps, ask some thought-provoking questions along the way.

Introductory Video Blog
This video includes a few tidbits of information about the author of this blog, Michael Szapkiw. The video concludes with three items about Michael: Two of the three are truths, and one is a lie. But which do you think is the lie?
Thanks for sharing with us. Being a web designer seems like a good lead in to another degree in technology, how did you settle on the concept of educational technology? As far as your truths and a lie go I think that the monkey and Tim Conway stories are true. The wedding one seems too simple compared to the others to be true so I think that is the lie. I look forwarding to finding out the truth!
Since you're a web designer, I will NOT link to my original blog; it will hurt your eyes and offend your professional sensibilities. Even though I've learned a LOT about web design since then, I tend to go with pre-made templates for my blogs now.
I'm a lifelong learner as well -- I can't imagine not wanting to learn as much as I can about a lot of different things.
As for your one "lie" -- instinct tells me to agree with Christy and go with the monkey story, but that's one of those "so crazy it HAS to be true" things. I'm going to say you didn't get married luau style in Hawaii.
I enjoyed your video introduction, and look forward to working with you in this class. I know monkeys can be aggressive, so I believe your one non-truth may be the Hawaiian style wedding. Hope you have a great day!
I enjoyed hearing the logic behind some of your thoughts about my truths/lie. The lie is that I had a wedding "luau-style" in Hawaii. I actually got married at Disney World and only had a luau-style wedding shower. I got to joke with Tim Conway a few years back working in TV, and I actually had monkeys chasing my wife and me in Malaysia trying to steal out bags. They can be really aggressive!
Thanks for the post. I am interested in learning more about what you do with web design at CBN. Here in Ft. Lauderdale we are moving rapidly toward the digital classroom and providing a distance learning program to those who need it. The problem with being anywhere near the cutting edge of technology in education is that we must cobble together the various, disinterested, frayed ends of digital resources and do so in a convincing, inviting way.
We are currently waiting for our book publishers to catch up to us in providing online versions of their texts so we can jettison the books in lieu of iPads. Everyone wants to keep their baby proprietary.
We have been beating around a "facebook style" student interface that has everything a student needs...Calendar, grade book, storage space, itext, Courses, mail, etc all on one page. One password to open it all.
I about did a back flip when I was the "My LU" email recently! It is exactly what we have been reaching for.
I am excited about the direction technology is taking in education. There will be real benefits for or students.
As for your truths...
Monkies -- TRUE Tim Conway-- TRUE "Luau Style" wedding -- Not so much.
I enjoyed watching your blog. Your cat was very entertaining as well. It is great that you are a lifelong learner, never content just too comfortable. I think this is the best investment that you can do for yourself and those around you. It is encouraging that you are working for a Christian ministry which I am not familiar with. It seems that you are in your field, as you appear comfortable in this area. Unlike you, technology has been an area of challenge for me. It always seems like there is so much more to learn. Concerning your three “facts”, I’ll guess that you were not almost mugged by a monkey!
Hi Michael,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! Are you planning on using your masters with your current career?
Your two truths and a lie are very convincing. I'm going to guess that you were never almost mugged by a monkey. Can't wait to find out the lie!
Have a great day!
